10 Rules For Smoothing Out Your Swing
It is not often I read a magazine article in which I totally agree with.
However this article called the 10 Rules for smoothing out your swing by Steve Elkington, with Guy Yocom in Australian Golf Digest June 2010 is so good I want it on this site so I remember it.
The 10 Rules In Summary from the article:
1. Find Your own rhythm
Smooth, rhythmic golf swings are often likened to music. But great swings are really like dancing because they contain a pattern not only of sound but also of movement.
2. Don't Fight Your Inner Clock
Tempo is the rate at which you execute the rhythm- the speed of the waltz.
3. Dial In Your Practice Swing
When you practice work on tying together your rhythm and the pace of that rhythm. It will solve a lot of flaws.
4. Try To Emit A Flash Of Geometry
When someone tells you your'e swing is looking great they're seeing flash geometry.
5. Strong Legs Can Save You
There has never been a great player who didn't have extremely strong legs.
6. Beware Of A Too Light Grip
Poor grip pressure, be it too light or too strong will channel from your hands into every part of your body and make a smooth swing impossible.
7. Dance Your Way Into The Shot
Think of your swing as the solo in the middle of a song when it;s your part simply begin the swing.
8. Don't Let Visuals Disrupt Your Rhythm
Ignore bunkers, hazards out of bounds ect..
9. The Alignment That Really Matters
The line of compression
10. It's Never Too Late
It's never too late to play your best golf
